Trick-or-Treat Safely

EXERCISE CAUTION AND BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AT ALL TIMES

1. Stay Visible: Make sure you and your child are visible to drivers and other pedestrians. Use reflective tape on costumes, carry glow sticks, or wear bright, visible clothing. This will help drivers see you, especially in low-light conditions.

2. Use Well-Fitting Costumes: Ensure that costumes fit properly and are not too long, as they can become tripping hazards. Avoid masks that obstruct vision, and opt for face paint or makeup instead. Comfortable footwear is essential for walking safely.

3. Stay on Well-Lit Paths: Stick to well-lit streets and sidewalks, and only visit houses with lights on. Avoid taking shortcuts through alleys or poorly lit areas. If possible, choose neighborhoods you're familiar with.

4. Adult Supervision: Children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult while trick-or-treating. If your child is old enough to go with friends, set a specific route and curfew, and make sure they have a way to contact you.

5. Check Candy: Before consuming any treats, thoroughly inspect the candy and goodies. Look for any signs of tampering or damage to packaging. Avoid homemade treats from strangers, and always follow any food allergy guidelines.

6. Trust your gut: If something doesn't 'feel' right, then trust your gut and leave that location.

Remember, safety is a top priority during Halloween, so these precautions can help ensure a fun and secure trick-or-treating experience.
